Who is americans for conservative direction
American conservatives once sought to ride the waves of markets and innovation toward ever-greater wealth and prosperity, but now they cower in fear.
And, as the trajectory of today's Republican Party shows, that makes them a threat to democracy. To understand why, allow me a brief historical interlude. Until roughly the start of the seventeenth century, people generally had to look back in time to find evidence of human greatness. Humanity had reached its peak in long lost golden ages of demigods, great thinkers, and massive construction projects. When people did look to the future for promise of a better world, it was a religious vision they conjured — a city of God, not of man.
When they looked to their own society, they saw that it was mostly the same as in the past, with Henry VIII and his retinue holding court in much the same fashion as Agamemnon, or Tiberius Caesar, or Arthur. In doing so, they have generally gathered themselves into four different kinds of political parties. Already have an account? Log in. Independents typically mirror the country as a whole, but in this case they are more centrist than center-right. Independents' political views in are nearly identical to those from and are generally in line with the long-term pattern, although conservatism was a bit higher among this group during the Obama years. While partisanship is associated with the biggest differences in how Americans define their political views, significant differences are also seen among most subgroup categories.
It should be noted that moderates are the largest segment among most groups, but there are important differences in the ideological balance at the margins. Liberalism moves in the opposite direction. Education: Those with higher levels of formal education are less likely to be conservative and more likely to be liberal. Race: Whites are more conservative than liberal, as are Hispanics to a lesser degree, while blacks lean liberal. Geographic region: The coastal regions of the U.
Americans' influence on the course of U. If only one of these dimensions were a factor in voter attitudes and behavior, there would likely be little change in policies and leadership at the national level. With more Americans consistently identifying as Democratic, Democrats would consistently win the White House and prevail in Congress. Or absent partisanship, with Americans leaning center-right politically, the country would always elect a conservative Democrat or a liberal Republican president.
It's the combination of Americans' party and ideological preferences that injects variability into politics. Even within the parties there is dynamism, although perhaps less so among Republicans, given their general conformity around conservatism. A group of cognoscenti, techno-nerds, with the resources to fund big-dollar ad campaigns and the computer savvy to influence the outcomes when necessary. The parent group is FWD. Their version of immigration reform differs vastly from that of the majority of Americans, but they are selling their ideas on any outlet willing to take their money.
Conservatives must appreciate the fact that these charlatans turn to tried-and-true name association when they want to give credence to their cause.
Their facade is crumbling, however, and the more people become aware of their agenda, the bigger their fail. One more of a myriad of reasons Congress should reject the Gang of Eight bill coming before them.
