Motorola razr how much

This Razr is fine. Whether that price is anywhere near worth it depends on how much you are willing to give up to have a cool, nostalgia-inducing flip phone with a folding screen.

Motorola has done a great job maintaining the classic look and feel of the Razr with this iteration, right on down to the curved edges and jutting chin at the bottom. When closed, it is an elegant, pretty thing. The plastic screen feels better, too, thanks to some subtle changes to the hinge system that makes it all just seem a little sturdier.

There are still some weird bumps in the middle, but no folding phone has figured out a way to avoid that yet. Motorola has also added a little more springiness to the flip. It just plain fits in pockets and bags where bigger, taller phones are awkward. So, nostalgia box checked. That phone literally creaked and made grinding sounds when you opened it.

This one is silent and smooth except for the faint hiss of the plastic screen sliding into place as you close it. The Razr comes in three colors: gold, graphite, and silver. It has two states. Then you will have access to the full Android interface for notifications including replies , a camera viewfinder, and even an app launcher.

If you move your finger over the center of the screen with any kind of natural pressure, you can feel weird dips and bumps underneath the screen. And, well, think about how often you slide your finger over the middle of the screen as you scroll. Motorola also made the screen float a bit so that, as the phone closes, the bottom part of it can slide into the chin just a little.

In that regard, it is another clever solution. It just feels loose. You can feel the screen move and hit whatever is behind it every time you tap the back button. Watching video is awkward because you get gigantic black bars when you go full screen.

Judged by the standards of a Galaxy S10 or iPhone 11 Pro, it looks washed-out and dim. Judged against the Galaxy Fold, it seems average. The creak. Folding phones need to minimize and control the forces that hit their screens: bending is fine, flexing and twisting are not so fine. So they have finely tuned hinges with complicated systems of interlocking gears that need to do that work. Hopefully, the hinge mechanism is also constructed so that it can be kept free of debris.

Any hope you might have of impressing your friends and making your enemies jealous of your flipping phone will immediately evaporate if you show it to them in a quiet environment. When folding and unfolding razr, you may hear a sound, which is intrinsic to the mechanical movement of the phone.

I can open the phone with one hand, and the hinge is just loose enough to let you flick it out with a classic flip phone flourish. I love the way a makeup compact snicks shut or how a luxury car door closes with a kind of airlock seal or — yes — how a classic Razr flips open. Because of that, I ended up using two hands to unfold the Razr most of the time, doing my best to not listen to the sound it made when I did.

Introduce even a little complication, like movement, shadow, or low light, and the whole thing falls apart. That said with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 now here, and no word on a third generation Razr, Motorola is falling behind its biggest and only foldable rival. Unfortunately Motorola will has some stiff competition on the pricing front. While that's the same as the Razr 5G's new price, Samsung wins on account of it being one year newer, and coming with all the resulting hardware upgrades.

That includes a newer Snapdragon processor, and a larger 3, mAh battery. Not to put too fine a point on it, but we didn't care for the feel of the original Razr, which didn't offer a design that lived up to its lofty price tag. The phone was very difficult to open with one hand, and a noticeable gap appeared between the flexible display and chassis as you opened and closed the device.

The hinge made a faint creaking sound, and the screen had bumps, lumps and noticeable creases. There are some visible improvements to this version. Start with the phone's chin, which is more tapered and not as chunky as it used to be. That's because it's no longer home to the phone's fingerprint sensor; Motorola moved that to the back of the Razr, housing it under a Motorola logo.

It's a definite improvement, at least visually. Motorola says it uses a teardrop folded display on the new Razr. It's a significant design move because it allows both sides to be perfectly flush when the Razr is folded shut.

A new hinge design also eliminates the gaps that plagued the first foldable Razr. This change should also make the phone easier to open with one hand, something we really struggled to do with the original Razr. As for durability, Motorola claims the hinge can stand up to , flips. By Motorola's math, only the most obsessive of users opens their Razr times a day. The average is about 40 opens. Some of the more notable missing features we've come to expect in expensive, high-end Android phones include:.

Phone engineers and designers have just figured out how to give smartphones foldable screens in a commercially available device. Now, they need time to perfect the tech. They still need to figure out how to make foldable screens more durable and how to give foldable smartphones the same kind of water and dust resistance that have become standard on most smartphones these days.

Your best bet is to wait a few years for those engineers and designers to nail down foldable smartphone technology until it's as reliable as the smartphone in your hands right now. Those bumps and lumps are likely a result of the foldable screen, as the screen itself isn't protected by a sheet of glass like most phones, which would normally mask any bumps.

Indeed, to make screens foldable, the screen has to be flexible, and glass isn't very flexible. Indeed, the new Razr is primarily designed to work on Verizon's networks. It may work with other carriers, but you won't get the full coverage and speeds you're used to.

Basically, if you don't have Verizon, the new Razr isn't available to you. For you.
